Should You Get A Chase Disney Visa Card? The Pros & Cons

All information about the Disney Visa Card has been collected independently by The Budget Mouse. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

If you are a Disney lover or are just planning a visit to one of the Disney parks, you are likely looking for any advantages and savings you can get!

Here’s the lowdown on the Disney Premier Visa Card (this is my referral link) and an honest evaluation of the pros and cons.

This card is not for everyone, so in this post, I’ll break down who would most benefit from the card.

I’ve personally had this card in my wallet for 10 years because of the many perks and benefits I get as a cardholder.

Read on for all of the details!

How The Disney Cards Work

First, there are two versions of the Disney Credit Card.

One has no annual fee and the other, card_name, has a annual_fees annual fee but offers more benefits.

For both cards, you’ll earn “cash back” in the form of Disney Reward Dollars.

You’ll earn 1% back on all purchases with the Disney Visa no-annual-fee card. With the Disney Premier Visa Card, you’ll earn 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney U.S. locations.

These Disney Reward Dollars can be redeemed towards almost anything Disney – on Disney Store, at Disney parks, and on Disney Cruise Line.

Chase Disney Visa Welcome Bonus

The first thing I like about this card is how easy it is to earn the welcome bonus. You don’t have to track spending for months like you might have to meet a large minimum spending requirement.

Right now, you’ll earn a $400 statement credit after you spend $1,000 in purchases in the first three months from account opening with the Disney Premier Card.

That’s a great return on a $49 annual fee!

With the no-annual fee Disney Visa card you earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $500 in purchases in the first three months from account opening.

My advice is to open the Premier card and get the higher bonus, then after a year decide if you’re seeing enough benefits from the Premier Card.

You can downgrade to the no annual fee card at ANY time just by calling the number on the back of your card.

If you are taking a trip to a Disney park in the near future, you can use the card to make a payment towards your vacation to meet the spending requirement, or just use it for your regular spending.

Disney Chase Visa Benefits

Get discounts at Disney Resorts

I have kept the Disney Visa in my wallet for almost 10 years now for the array of benefits you get as a cardholder.

Benefits of the Disney Visa include exclusive discounts on Disney Resorts hotels, dining and shopping discounts, special cardmember photo opportunities, discounts on tours and special experiences at Walt Disney World, and more.

I’ll explain the perks in detail next. And because the discounts do change, be sure to confirm the current discounts on the Disney Visa Cardmember site here before you go on your vacation.

Also be sure to check here for any limited-time offers such as room-only and package discounts at Walt Disney World and other Disney destinations.

And if you want to book a resort stay that includes a Disney Visa discount, I recommend booking with my travel agent partner Siera who will make sure you get any and all discounts that apply to your stay, all at no cost to you!

Disney Visa Dining Discounts

Save 20% at Joffrey’s Coffee with your Disney Visa

The perk I take advantage of the MOST are the discounts offered on food and beverages at Walt Disney World.

For example, if you pay with your Disney Visa you’ll save 20% on all purchases (excluding alcohol) at all Joffrey’s Coffee locations in Disney World!

This is significant savings on a place many guests visit already.

Save 10% at The Polite Pig with your Disney Visa

You’ll save 10% at some Disney Springs dining locations, including The Polite Pig, my favorite restaurant at Disney Springs.

no way jose sundae at beaches and cream

Then there is a long list of table service restaurants where you can save 10% when you pay with your Disney Visa!

One of my favorites is Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club. Please go and enjoy a No Way Jose sundae – you can thank me later.

boma dessert plate

Another favorite included in the discounts is Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Even Forky approves of the dessert selections!

Disney Visa Shopping Discounts

Another perk of the Disney Visa is the 10% off discount on select purchases over $50 at stores in Walt Disney World. This includes purchasing your Resort Refillable Mugs at Disney World – learn more about them here!

I try to make all of my vacation purchases at one time if possible to make sure they qualify for the discount.

Another perk to having the card is that you can save 10% on almost ANY purchase from Disney Store when you pay with your Disney Rewards Visa and use the promo code DVRCMEMBER at checkout!

You DON’T have to spend $50 to get this discount and you can combine this code with any other discounts such as free shipping.

Disney Visa Guided Tours Discount

Another Disney Visa discount I’ve used on several occassions is the 15% discount on select Guided Tours.

Most recently we used it for the “Caring for Giants” tour at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It was an awesome low-cost way to go “behind the scenes” at Disney World and learn more about the elephants.

behind the seed tour

I’ve also used the discount on the Epcot “Behind the Seeds” tour which I also highly recommend!

I’m embarrased to say that Living With The Land is a not-to-be-missed attraction for me so I was geeking out on this tour.

Other Disney Visa Perks & Benefits

Disney Rewards Insider magazine with the Incredibles on the front

Get the Disney Rewards Insider magazine as a cardmember perk

Here are a few other perks of the Disney Visa card that may interest you.

You’ll get a free Disney Rewards Insider magazine every few months in the mail. I love getting “Mickey Mail” which is what I call anything related to Disney World that arrives in my mailbox.

You’ll get zero interest on Disney World vacation packages for 12 months (a great way to avoid paying any interest fees on your vacation).

And I perk I plan to finally try on out an upcoming trip is the cardmember exclusive photo opportunities at Epcot and Hollywood Studios (check out a review of the Epcot Meet & Greet here).

Get the lowdown on all of the current perks and benefits of the card here.

So if you are planning a visit to Walt Disney World or are a frequent visitor, these perks and the easy sign-up bonus might be enough to merit getting this card.

Plus you can choose from some fun Disney designs for your card and add a little Disney magic to your day whenever you see the card in your wallet.

Who Shouldn’t Get This Card

a bunch of credit cards

If you are willing to put in some time and effort, you can earn substantially larger sign-up bonuses with other cards.

If you are interested in opening other Chase cards in the future, you should be aware of Chase’s 5/24 policy. This might steer you towards opening a card other than the Disney Visa first, such as my #1 favorite travel rewards card.

If you want a card to earn cashback on everyday purchases, this card’s 1% return isn’t very good. Read about my favorite rewards card here which earns 2 miles on everything.

If you have struggled to pay your bills on time or have accumulated large balances on cards in the past, please do NOT open this card just to save a few hundred dollars off of your vacation.

So in summary, if you are a Disney fan who wants the perks offered by this card and the easy-to-earn bonus, I suggest you sign up for the Disney Rewards Chase Visa here!

Trying to decide if the Disney card is worth opening to save 300. we are getting ready to book 8,000 in family vaca for January. We have a big meal planned at Ohana. will it save on all meals if used? We do not have credit cards and would pay it off right away. Would only use if it is going to help discount meals and take some off the total.

Hi Misty! Yes, if you get the Disney Visa card you can use it for the dining discount at 'Ohana. You would have to pay for the entire meal with the card you would save 10% off everyone's meal. There is a discount on many other dining locations (20% off at all Joffrey's Coffee locations in the parks which we use a LOT) as well as 10% off any purchase over $50 in any Disney gift shop. If you get the Premier card for the $300 statement credit and decide you want to later downgrade to the no-annual fee card (which I did many years ago) just call the number on the back of the card. Hope that helps!
