Just a quick comment on turning down housekeeping to get a gift card. This is not the same as some hotels who ask you to not get fresh towels every day. When enough people turn down housekeeping service, Disney can tell housekeepers to not come in to work that day and, by the way, they don't get paid for that day. So, your $10 gift card may be putting a big hole in the take home pay of a housekeeper who may need every dollar they can earn. Just a thought.

Hi June! I definitely considered this when I opted out of housekeeping. Keep these things in mind, too - Disney is opening four new hotels in the next few years and may be faced with a housekeeping shortage. This is likely part of their plan to have enough staff to meet the demand of the new hotels. Also, increased security measures at the hotels mean they have to have cast members to do a "security check" of every single room at Disney hotels every day, even if you have a do not disturb sign on the door. When we got our daily security check it appeared to be Mousekeeping staff. So I am not assuming that my turning down housekeeping is turning people away from their jobs. It is likely Disney's way to 1) help people only pay for the services they actually want and 2) best utilize their cast members. Just some more info to chew on!
